Explorer Henry Hudson was already famous in 1608 when he signed on with the Dutch East India Company to find a northeast ocean route to Asia. Hudson made the perilous journey into unknown and uncharted waters on the 80-ton ship, the Half Moon with a crew of 20 Dutch and English sailors. After first landing on the coast of Maine, Hudson sailed north and began an exploration of the river that would forever after bear his name.
