The Evergreen Room

Book NOw

Evergreens and ancient seasonal celebrations go together like chain and mail. Egyptians, Romans, Druids, Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Spaniards and Slovaks all used the Evergreen as a symbol that spring—and abundance—would surely return to the earth. Many of these celebrations took place during winter solstice, a time when the outer darkness of winter caused us to look inward to our God, our family, our community and ourselves for light. Traditions such as gift giving or tree decoration have sprung up around these celebrations. The Evergreen links us with a historic past and provides a way for us to take our minds off the short, cold, dark and damp days of winter.
