Candace Wheeler is one of the key figures in the decorative arts movement of the late nineteenth century. She was the founder of Onetora Park, a summer cottage colony in the Catskill High Peaks for artists and intellectuals such as Mark Twain, Elizabeth Custer, and Mary Mapes Dodge.
Onteora Park, now a private community in the Town of Hunter, is 2 ½ hours from New York City, where Wheeler first partnered with Louis Comfort Tiffany and later founded her own firm, Associated Artists.
