The Great Catskill Mountain Quilt Show
The Land of Rip Van Winkle is waking up to ... quilting!
Ready to celebrate their heritage, the Dutch quilters are coming to take back the Catskills! The 10th annual Great Catskill Mountain Quilt Show promises an exceptional display of talent, featuring the best of the quilted arts from all over the Catskill Region. Part of the quilt exhibit features a different quilting tradition from another part of the U.S. or the world.

This coming summer (2006), the theme is Dutch Quilting Traditions. Quilts made using Dutch motifs will be exhibited and a guest speaker will talk about quilting in the Dutch tradition. The Dutch quilting tradition incorporates its own unique fabrics, as well as vintage and contemporary patterns. Quilted items from the Netherlands will be displayed during the 2006 Catskill Mountain Foundation's Mountain Culture Festival. Catskill Region quilters are also invited to make quilts inspired by the Dutch culture for display in the quilt show. Dutch master quilter Rita Berghuis will bring an assortment of traditional and contemporary quilts from her homeland and be on hand to lecture about the evolution of modern Dutch quilting techniques and themes.

Family Activities
Families will find ample activities in the Kids' Tent. Enjoy stories and puppetry from the Butterfly Lady (Maraleen Manos-Jones), Clifford the Big Red Dog, and New York State's Maple Queen; face-painting, magnetic fishing, and children's choral performances courtesy of the Bruderhof; fencing demonstrations by the Gristmill Fencing Club; martial arts demonstrations by Mountain Martial Arts Academy. Sugar Maples Center for Arts Education will provide opportunities for children and adults to try their hand at several crafts.

Regional and Gourmet Foods
Hungry visitors will be more than satisfied by the Mountain Culture Festival's gourmet treats. During the Festival, visitors can enjoy homemade sorbets, gelati, and lemonade; salads and falafel from The Salad Hut, a salad bar on wheels; wine tastings from Brotherhood Winery; Indian food from Shangri La Mountain Gate Lodge; sandwich wraps from Village Deli; Bread Alone Bakery pie slices, brownies, and giant cookies; Ray's Kettle Corn; and barbequed hamburgers and hotdogs, veggie burgers, and grilled chicken with salad prepared by Catskill Mountain Foundation's Farmers Market, and much more.
